Week 1 Update

Week 1 of NoQu25 is in the books! I started off strong with me being able to host the first Write On Q in the NoQu discord server and writing over 3,000 words.   Unfortunately, due to having two bad migraines and actually having a job this year I've stagnated and am currently sitting at 4,090 words written this week. I'm thinking that I'm going to have to skip a few chapters so I can get to the stuff I'm actually excited to write about so I can make some progress on my word goal. Hopefully I'll be able to write on the days this week I' not working and catch up to where I need to be. As far as other updates go, I recently decided that one of my characters works a lot better if I change her Ability (superpower), and I'll be writing a few blog posts as character introductions later this month. I know it's a short update, and hopefully I'll have more to report next week.  How is NoQu going for you? Let me know in the comments!!

Why Rural Superheros?

Spider-Man, Batman, Superman.  New York, Gotham, Metropolis. It's almost a given that superheroes live in a city. The stakes are usually thought to be higher and bigger buildings = bigger destruction. So this begs the question, why write a superhero novel in a rural setting? What evil is there to fight in the middle of the woods? To begin with, even though only 1 in 5 Americans live in rural areas,  97% percent of American land is considered rural. That's a lot of land! ( Source 1 , Source 2 ) Additionally, rural communities often face more difficulties in recovering from natural disasters, with small towns often not having the same resources to rebuild. Take North Carolina after Hurricane Helene last year; floods destroyed infrastructure and homes, roads were washed away preventing transportation and EMS from getting where they needed to go, there were prolonged power outages, and some areas went without potable water for over 50 days. Outline October

Image
The leaves are turning, tea is brewing, and a chill runs up my spine. Not because of Halloween, but because NoQuWriCo is less than a month away! And I am determined to finish my third draft of Project: Emergence during the challenge. Over the years, I've learned that I cannot successfully write without an extremely detailed outline. This leads me to my personal challenge for this month, which I'm calling Outline October.    The Problem When I first started looking into how to outline a novel it seemed like everything was based around the 3 act structure with an inciting incident, a midpoint, and a climax. which is a system that doesn't quite work for P:E.   I attempted outlining too late into the process and the 3 act structure didn't work because I had already started writing without using it as a guide, so I decided to instead come up with my own method that was similar, but different enough that it would work for me where the 3 act wasn't.   What I did Firs...

Introduction

Why, hello there! My name is Naomi Morgan, lovely to meet you all. I am a writer, collector of "grandma hobbies" (knitting, canning, candle making, and the like), and most importantly, I am a Christian. On this blog, I share snippets of where I am in my writing journey, encouraging stories, and biblical truths. Current Writing Projects My current project is called Project: Emergence , and is a superhero novel about six individuals who escape from the government facility where they were raised and attempt to live freely. But there's more to freedom than you might think, and the government will stop at nothing to get them back. Full of found family, sweet relationships, medically accurate treatment of injuries, and more! Project: Emergence is currently on its third draft.  Other Stuff? In 2021 I was the first ever winner of the NoQuWriCo challenge with my first draft of Project: Emergence .   I enjoy traveling and have been to five different countries.   My Instagram ...
